Jumpstart Your Leadership

You’ve learned basic leadership skills by modeling others, but now it’s time to elevate your skills and formalize your role. Discover what aspiring leaders already know: The Leadership Essentials Program: Drivers for Success from the award-winning Center for Leadership at FIU will help you develop your leadership capabilities to jumpstart your career.

Imagine discovering the foundational leadership skills not learned in the workplace and how far you could go by spending some time in a proven leadership course. This program will develop and enhance your existing skills to drive your success through learning to lead from your strengths, tools for effective decision making, managing time, and developing a growth mindset. Who should attend?

The Leadership Essentials Programs are designed for individuals looking to develop foundational leadership capabilities. Well-qualified participants are recently-appointed leaders or those who informally lead others at work, those looking to hone basic leadership skills and insights, or those who are preparing to take on leadership roles.

There is no formal prerequisite to attend LEP. Each program is unique such that participants may attend all program iterations and in any order.

If you previously attended an iteration of The Leadership Essentials Program, but do not recall which one, please contact us at lead@fiu.edu so we can provide you with that information.

The Center for Leadership is a recognized provider of both Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and SHRM, offering Professional Development Credits (PDCs) for the SHRM-CP® or SHRM-SCP® recertification activities. Participants of this program will be eligible to receive CEUs and SHRM-PDCs with participating professional organizations.

  • Day 1 from 12:30pm to 5:00pm ET
    • Welcome and Program Introduction
    • Leading from your strengths: understand the role personal strengths play in your leadership capacity
    • Effective decision making: create structured habits for critical thinking and effective decision making
  • Day 2 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm ET
    • Managing time: learn skills to minimize interruptions and manage existing time more efficiently
    • Developing a growth mindset: explore the idea of a growth mindset versus a fixed mindset, and identify opportunities to embrace a growth mindset in the workplace
