About the Lecture
How to become a power broker poised to tackle the biggest problems of our time
Throughout her pathbreaking career, Rosabeth Moss Kanter has time and again radically moved the arc of our thinking about leadership, change, and innovation. Drawing on her revolutionary work at the Harvard Advanced Leadership Initiative, she develops a new paradigm for taking on daunting problems such as climate change, social divisiveness, and economic insecurity. “Thinking outside the building” is the leadership skill of the future—and absolutely necessary for breaking through blockages thwarting solutions that can shake up the status quo.
Kanter provides extraordinary accounts of successes and near-stumbles of advanced leaders, A former Trader Joe’s executive, for example, navigated across business, government, and community sectors to deal with poor nutrition in inner cities. A Washington couple developed an ingenious global pathway for refugees to enter the job market. A visionary journalist-turned-entrepreneur closed social divides by giving fifty million social media users access to free local education and culture.
Advanced leadership is an emerging worldview of taking direct positive action without anyone asking you to do it. And this ambitious book aims not only to change the way we look at our careers, lives, and leadership potential, but mobilize an “army for change” equipped to tackle the world’s most pressing problems.
