Leading Well: Executive Edition

Leading Well was developed to engage the community we serve through digital conversations with academics, business executives, executive coaches, community leaders, and leadership experts. These wide-ranging discussions cover topics from personal growth to leading others, and human development to leadership best practices, with a goal of engaging leaders at all levels. Through this series, we provide access to expertise, insight, advice, and best practices on topics related to leadership, leadership development, and leading well.

  • Joseph Caruncho

    joe-carruncho.pngJoseph L. Caruncho, Sr. is the Chief Executive Officer of Genuine Health Group LLC. Genuine Health Group is a newly-formed company that is developing an analytics-powered health management platform that focuses on assisting health care providers and payers to transition to value-based payment models, including entering into risk agreements with Medicare Advantage health plans, and developing and managing Accountable Care Organizations.

    Mr. Caruncho’s previous projects include being the co-founder, Chairman and CEO of Preferred Care Partners, a health care company that owns and operates Medicare Advantage and Florida Medicaid insurance plans in Florida. During his tenure as CEO, Mr. Caruncho led the company from a start-up to over $750 million in annual revenues, with over 600 employees. United Healthcare acquired the Company in June 2012, and he retired from the Company in August 2013. Mr. Caruncho is a licensed attorney and a member of the Florida Bar. For 13 years prior to founding Preferred Care, Mr. Caruncho practiced law as a corporate healthcare attorney, representing physicians, hospital systems, health care delivery networks, ancillary providers and health plans.

    Active in the South Florida community, he has received numerous recognitions, including induction into FIU’s College of Business Entrepreneurial Hall of Fame, selection as the Ernst and Young Health Care Entrepreneur of the Year for the State on Florida, South Florida Business Journal’s Healthcare CEO of the Year, and being listed in Hispanic Business Magazine as one of the Top 100 Most Influential Hispanics in the U.S. Mr. Caruncho has served on the Florida Board of Governors, which governs all public state universities in Florida. Mr. Caruncho also served as the BOG’s representative on Governor Scott’s Blue Ribbon Task Force on Higher Education. He has also previously served on the Board of Trustees of Florida Polytechnic University and Florida International University, and is former chairman of the FIU Foundation Board of Directors.

  • Lynn A. Gross

    lynn-gross-leadership.pngLynn is a seasoned human resources leader with a passion for achieving company results through finding, developing and retaining great talent. She has a demonstrated ability to navigate executive leaders, teams and organizations through significant adversity and change.

    Lynn is the Vice President of Human Resources for Sunshine State Health Plan, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Centene Corporation, a Fortune 75 managed care organization. Lynn has responsibility for human resources strategies and execution for Sunshine’s approximately 2500 employees.

    Prior to Centene, Lynn served as Vice President of Human Resources at Office Depot, Inc. She led a team of more than 30 human resource professionals supporting up to 40,000 associates and 1,900 stores.She directed strategies related to hiring, staffing, and finding and retaining great talent; talent management and succession planning; compensation; organizational design; culture, engagement, and values; policies; and data information.

    Prior to her HR leadership role, she was Sr. Employment Counsel at Office Depot. Lynn was a trusted advisor and counselor to senior human resources leaders on strategic initiatives such as reorganizations and RIFs, incentive plans, benefits, union issues, and employment law matters.

    Prior to joining Office Depot, Lynn spent most of her career with Roetzel and Andress in Cleveland, Ohio, where she counseled employers and successfully represented them in employment litigation and administrative proceedings.

    Lynn received her undergraduate degree in Social Relations (BA), from Michigan State University’s Honors’ College, and her JD degree, from Case Western Reserve University School of Law. Lynn is licensed to practice law in Florida and Ohio (inactive) as well as various federal courts.

    Lynn was named an Ohio Rising Star by Super Lawyers Magazine in 2005, 2006, and 2007 for Labor and Employment Law.

    She previously served as co-chair of the Labor and Employment Law Committee of the South Palm Beach County Bar Associate and Co-Chair of the Communications Sub-Committee of the Labor and Employment Law Committee of the Associate of Corporate Counsel. She is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management. Lynn’s community involvement has included serving in various volunteer capacities for the Soccer Association of Boca Raton.
