Dr. Jennifer Doherty-Restrepo is the Assistant Vice President for Academic Planning and Accountability at Florida International University (FIU). In this role, Jennifer is responsible for overseeing compliance with state, regional, and national accreditation standards at the program, college, and university level, including the implementation of assessment best practices to document program and student learning outcomes. She also leads the university quality enhancement plan – Critical Skills for the 21st Century – that enhances student preparation for the 21st century workforce by certifying students’ attainment of knowledge, skills, abilities, and values related to artificial intelligence, data interpretation, and emotional intelligence.

Dr. Doherty-Restrepo holds the rank of Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Athletic Training in the Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing and Health Sciences (NWCNHS) at FIU. She was hired by FIU in 2004 to serve as the Program Director of the Athletic Training Program and in 2007 she was appointed the founding Chair of the Department of Athletic Training. During her tenure at FIU, she spearheaded the development of the first professional Master of Science in Athletic Training degree program (launched in 2005) and Doctor of Athletic Training degree program approved (launched in 2018) in the state of Florida.

Dr. Doherty-Restrepo attended Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA where she graduated with a B.S. in Athletic Training. She later graduated from the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL where she graduated with a M.S. in Exercise and Sport Sciences. In 2008, Jennifer completed her Ph.D. degree in Educational Research/Exercise Physiology at the University of Miami in Miami, FL.

Dr. Doherty-Restrepo has over twenty years of experience in higher education as both an educator and administrator. Her areas of expertise include andragogy, simulation-based instruction, and professional/continuing education in athletic training as well as accreditation and institutional effectiveness. Jennifer serves the Athletic Training Profession as a manuscript reviewer for the Journal of Athletic Training and the Athletic Training Education Journal. She is an Associate Editor for the Athletic Training Education Journal. Jennifer serves the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education as a site visitor. Recently, Jennifer was elected to serve as a member of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges Board of Trustees.
