Presenter
Mariana Atencio
Mariana Atencio is a Peabody award-winning news personality, author and public speaker, included in AdWeek’s “Young Influentials”, as well as the co-founder of "Go Like", her multimedia production company.
She has covered domestic and international issues as an anchor and national correspondent on television for over a decade, from breaking news to special reports in English and Spanish. Mariana’s TEDx Talk on authenticity, “What Makes You Special?” has been viewed more than 11 million times and translated into 11 languages. Her first book, Perfectly You: Embracing the Power of Being Real, was an Amazon #1 Best Seller for Hispanic & Latino Biographies; its audio counterpart was also selected by Audible and Apple as a “Must Listen.
As one of the few Latina storytellers currently on mainstream network news, she has become one of the most important voices in the Latinx community.
Mariana came to the United States after losing the hope of becoming a journalist in her home country of Venezuela. Suddenly, as an immigrant and the new girl on television, she was faced with a choice: be what everybody else expected or find her own voice and purpose. She realized that re-defining herself beyond labels was the only way forward. She has reported from the trenches of the Venezuelan pro-democracy movement to the forefront of the immigration debate in the United States.
Her work has been honored with a Peabody, a Gracie, and an IRE award. She won Columbia University Journalism School’s First Decade Award, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists President's Award and was nominated for a National Emmy.
