Leadership for Social Reconciliation
Social reconciliation—rebuilding societies after conflict or authoritarian rule—has become a major priority in many parts of the world. Likewise, it often also entails helping populations move through letting go of a past that is no longer viable in order to go toward a future yet only partially imagined. In the past two decades, a great deal has been learned about social reconciliation’s dynamics and prospects. This lecture will explore the larger frames of vision needed to facilitate such change, the special skills required for leading processes within that change, and the personal qualities of the leader necessary for bringing about social reconciliation.
