Leaders who produce leaders

That restaurant meal you ate last weekend may have been quite different if not for chef Alice Waters. How did she influence the entire restaurant industry? Sure – she is considered the founder of the farm-to-table movement, but, it’s not about her restaurants. In this month’s Leadership Insights section, we focus on field research done by Dr. Sydney Finkelstein, friend of the FIU Center for Leadership and Professor of Management at Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Management. He argues convincingly and shows evidence for the idea that-- it’s not WHAT you build as a leader, but WHO you build that matters, and he tracked down some of the leaders who are best at doing this.

Turns out that legendary NFL coach Bill Walsh was also incredible at this – at one point in time the majority of head coaches in the NFL had worked under Walsh. How many leaders and organizations get this wrong? Hear how the best do it, and take away some tips for leading with more impact – from Dr. Finkelstein's interview with Harvard Business Review. If you want a more in-depth version – check out his book Superbosses or learn about his 2017 FIU Center for Leadership Lecture.
