CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, SUNSHINE STATE HEALTH PLAN
Chris Paterson is chief executive officer of Sunshine Health, one of the largest Medicaid and Long Term Care health plans in Florida. Sunshine Health, part of Centene Corporation, also offers Medicare, Healthy Kids, and Health Insurance Marketplace products. Chris is the former CEO of CareGuide, regional president of UnitedHealth Group’s AmeriChoice Corporation, CEO of AmeriChoice’s health plans in Pennsylvania, EVP of Merit Behavioral Care Corporation, and President of Tennessee Behavioral Health.
Throughout his career in both public and private companies, Chris has been responsible for all aspects of operations, strategic planning and the introduction of innovative care management models and programs. He chairs the Florida Association of Health Plans, is second vice chair of the Urban League of Broward County Board of Directors, is a member of the Orange Bowl Committee, sits on the Board of Advisors of the Florida International University Center for Leadership, is a Trustee of the Greater Ft. Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Florida Health Insurance Advisory Board. Chris was previously appointed by the governor to serve on the Medical Home Task Force and Intergovernmental Transfer Technical Advisory Panel.
After receiving undergraduate, M.A., and Ph.D. degrees from Ohio State University, Chris interned at the University of Florida and served on the faculty of the University of Miami early in his career.
