Message from the Executive Director   Featured Leader

Dear Friends,

It is indeed an exciting time for me to be both a part of the Center for Leadership and also a professor in the College of Business here at FIU!

The center’s work in providing executive leadership development opportunities to our community has grown significantly. With our five executive programs, several leadership lectures and other engagement opportunities, our community now, more than ever, has the means to access continually the kind of information that helps us develop, not just as leaders, but as human beings.

As such, our recognition of Mr. Alberto Ibargüen for this year’s Transcendent Leader Award is quite fitting- we believe he is the kind of leader we should all aspire to be- one who through his work and everyday life strives to better our community and our world. You will have an opportunity to hear from him personally when he accepts his award this fall at The Chapman Leadership Honors.

Further, the center this fall welcomes Dr. Martin Seligman- the father of positive psychology, to kick off The Leadership Lectures series, 2013-2014. Dr. Seligman is just one of a stellar line up of speakers who join this series this year.

As a professor in the college, I am delighted that with the addition of Dr. Fred Walumbwa, the center, the college and indeed FIU, are now strongly positioned to drive leadership research and practice. Professor Walumbwa joins Drs. Nathan Hiller, Hock-Peng Sin and I in our continuous efforts to more fully explore what makes for ethical and effective leadership.

Indeed, these are exciting times for the center and the college. Join us wherever you can, we look forward to seeing you.
