Message from the Executive Director   Featured Leader

Dear Friends,

The FIU Center for Leadership is coming into its own! As we approach our 5th anniversary, we have made tremendous strides in providing innovative and pioneering opportunities to access and explore leadership education and development.

Indeed, there really is much to celebrate: four (4) flagship open enrollment executive leadership programs second to none in Florida; The Leadership Lectures series which attracts the most recognized and decorated leadership scholars from around the world; teach-ins, master classes and colloquia which together with our lectures attracted record attendance of almost 2000 and allowed us to share with our community what we know makes for ethical and effective leadership. Needless to say we have now become a source for personal and professional development resulting in amicable partnerships with The Miami Foundation, Mercantil Commercebank and The Knight Foundation.

We also have much to be grateful for: our Board of Advisors which includes 11 accomplished Senior Executives, including this year’s addition of two distinguished women leaders, that provide guidance and direction; a multidisciplinary Academic Advisory Board that helps to direct the center’s research and training efforts; and the more recent addition of dedicated leadership faculty such as the prolific, Dr. Fred Walumbwa.

Reprising the opportunities we’ve made available so far is just the beginning as we look to a new academic year. This fall we honor Alberto Ibargüen, President of The Knight Foundation, with the prestigious Transcendent Leader Award at our premier event, The Chapman Leadership Lecture. Dr. Martin Seligman, world renowned author, psychologist and father of positive psychology, joins us in October as part of The Leadership Lectures. The High Potential Leader executive development program also joins our fall line-up, offering director level executives tools necessary for developing a portfolio of strategic leadership capabilities. It’s going to be another stellar and exciting year.

To each of you who’ve attended a lecture or program, who’ve voiced your support and commitment to championing what we do, we say thank you. I invite you to come along for the ride, and bring a friend, as we continue to build better leaders for a better world.

Sincerely,

Modesto "Mit
