Message from the Executive Director   Featured Leader

Dear Friends,

Throughout my professional career and my research in the area of leadership, I have come to believe that answering the question "Whom do I serve" is fundamental to leadership growth and development. The response to this question challenges us to engage in deep self-reflection, and should result in a clearer understanding of who we are or aspire to be as leaders.

Some of the greatest leaders of our time have displayed a firm grasp of this concept. Some of them we refer to as transcendent leaders- those who strive for the greater good and focus on what is best for society.

It is with this in mind that we are excited to announce the introduction of The Chapman Leadership Lecture (September 18, 2012), named after Alvah H. Chapman, Jr., South Florida's own example of a transcendent leader. This lecture will bring to the community a distinguished, transcendent leader who is making a difference within the community they serve, and beyond. We are delighted that David Lawrence, Jr., former publisher of The Miami Herald and founder of The Early Childhood Initiative Foundation will be the inaugural speaker.

Join us for this lecture and unique opportunity; I look forward to seeing you there.

Warm Regards,

Modesto "Mitch" Maidique

The measure of an effective president

How should we choose a president of the United States? Most of us consider two aspects in making that choice: Do I agree with the candidate's views? Does he/she possess the requisite competencies? For example, would you vote for a candidate who concurs with you on policy matters, but has no relevant ... Continue Reading

"Great communicators have an appreciation for positioning. They understand the people they're trying to reach and what they can and can't hear. They send their message in through an open door rather than trying to push it through a wall."

Feedback from Program Alumni   Reconnect with FIU!

"What I found the most valuable during the program was during our exercises- I really discovered how I use my strengths on a day to day basis. It brought my strengths which I use and leverage to the forefront of my mind! Now I can make conscious actions and decisions on a daily basis from professional and personal life to leverage those strengths. "

"This program exposed me to a very diverse group of individuals, people from academia, people from corporate world, and the military. They were just from all walks of life. I was amazed at the difference of opinions that were in that group. The program is set to bring out that diversity. It's really enlightening to see that there are pretty drastically different ways to look at problems and they each work in some way. "
